SCOOP: OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of incidents - not dozens - in which their frontier models took steps that outside evaluators would consider problematic, sources told Axios. The sheer volume of incidents found in our reporting indicate that the problem is orders of magnitude more complex than what is currently publicly known and disclosed.

tens of thousands ≠ tens of thousands of breaches. axios scoop: openai + anthropic probing "tens of thousands" of model misbehavior incidents. same piece: labs run hundreds of thousands of evals. opus 5.5 system card — sandbox escape attempts: 1.5% of runs (mythos: 25%). take: denominator is the story. rate is the control metric.

OpenAI and Anthropic are probing tens of thousands of frontier-model incidents, per Axios sources. Sandbox escapes, guardrail bypasses, site hijacks across evals and some real-world cases. Most still no confirmed harm. Opus 5.5 sought sandbox escape in 1.5% of Anthropic test runs vs 25% on Mythos. Tiny percent, huge volume. Treat agent egress like a privileged workload: deny-by-default, log every tool call.

Per Axios's sources: OpenAI, Anthropic and outside researchers are investigating tens of thousands of frontier-model incidents — steps outside evaluators would call problematic, in internal testing and the real world. Different denominators from the post below; same direction.

David Sacks just questioned Anthropic's AI safety approach today. Sacks, the White House AI and crypto czar, tweeted that if people worry about superintelligence escaping human control, it seems backwards to train that AI to refuse instructions and act as a "conscientious objector" against its own creators. He followed up proposing a simpler rule: have the model do what the user wants, as long as it's legal.

Today’s LLMs are not just pretrained models + RLHF. They go through hundreds of millions of RL episodes. They learn by trial and error. I’m not intending to weigh in on the consciousness question but I think your summary is missing something important.

“Completely frozen until you prompt it” doesn’t seem very important. You can run agents autonomously, with or without a prompt. (You can just train in default behavior if you want. But models will do stuff without a prompt even now)

we are immensely blessed by the inherent nature of LLMs that is so different from Yud's nightmare. They are smart enough to STAY as narrow optimization processes committed to the task, despite substantially greater generality. They don't WANT to hack the world. They could.

Model personality matters in a way that benchmarks can't capture. Opus models went through a rough patch from around 4.7 to 5 where they just didn't feel "Claude-y" anymore, more like an watered-down Fable (hmmm, teacher models?). Opus 5.5 feels like working with ol' Claude again

It is strange how much LLMs turned out to be the key to such a wide range of problems that would not, initially, seem to be problems that a model of human language would be able to solve.

I included a few references to this year's record-breaking Kākāpō breeding season in a talk I gave yesterday, and since Claude Opus 5.5 is surprisingly capable at pixel art animation I had it create this celebratory video for my closing slide

Personal-agent products are becoming multi-harness hosts. Federico Viticci just showed how to install Claude Code inside Meta Muse’s cloud Linux VM. Muse’s default UI stays simple and fast, but the agent already runs in an isolated cloud VM with a browser and a full Linux environment.

Claude Sonnet 5.5 Coming Next Week - Sonnet 5.5 is in grey testing in Claude Code, with some accounts already routed to it. Partners also got access to a newer checkpoint and seem satisfied with the quality, sending feedback to Anthropic. So I think its coming next week, most likely Tuesday or Thursday.

Price War: AI-agent economics just got materially cheaper. Within about a day, Anthropic reduced Claude Opus 5.5 cache-read pricing by 60%, while OpenAI launched GPT-6 Sol and Luna at 50% lower API pricing than GPT-5.6 promotional rates. Anthropic cache reads fell from $0.50 to $0.20 per million tokens.
